Homeschooling so far.....

I don't know how else to say it except...I love it! I was so nervous about my patience level and about the responsibility of homeschooling them and about being with my children ALL of the time! It is probably the most fun thing I've ever done though. We explore the world and play together and learn. We have a curriculum and spend 1-2 hours/day doing traditional math/spelling/reading/writing/social studies and science. It's easy to go quickly because it is one on one (and Brian does the math - which takes a long time). I'm not waiting for 25 kids to open books and turn to the correct page and ask questions and sharpen pencils. We sit down, we go. We learn, we study, we finish. After that, we can do whatever we want. Seriously - I can't imagine turning back. I was quite worried about one of the children and his attitude. However, when he isn't engaging I ask him if he wants to go to traditional school, or stay home with me? He sits right up and studies his little brain out! It's so amazing and refreshing. I'm gentle and sweet and supportive of him in a way I never imagined I could be. My other son is self-motivated and wanted to learn. He is incredibly bright and equally wiggly. Sometimes we break for him to ride his bike or we do a morning activity because he just can't sit still. Most of the time, he pulls through all the work. I quiz him the next day, and again 3 days later. He's got it. He really does.

We've spent our time in Jackson really buckling down on homeschooling. We do a full lesson everyday. We are not an unschooled family and we take it all very seriously. That being said, my kids will finish the current curriculum by the middle of the year. I imagine Hunter will be in 4th and Landon in 2nd by January! They are rocking through it. Not only that, we have created this incredibly strong bond between us. Besides homeschooling we have gone hiking, biking, horseback riding, swimming, golfing, fishing and we go to the library every week. Then we all sit down for lunch or whatever and I read while they eat. I read to them again at night time, before bed. Hunter reads to the kids whenever I ask him!

When we return home we will start a ton of things: soccer for the 3 big kids, dance for all 4 (Aspen is in ballet and hip hop), writing, math and computer coding classes for the boys. We will be a whole lot busier when at home as opposed to here in Jackson, so it won't be as relaxing and regenerating.  I need to get them into a language program of some sort and also, they need to practice typing. If your kid has an email account or if you'd like to be pen pals, send me your info and I will have my kids write to yours! Anyhow, raising kids is such a wild adventure. I never thought I'd be doing this, but sometimes life is unpredictable. Selling skincare regimens and homeschooling my children while traveling around between Jackson Hole and Manhattan Beach?! Who would predict that?! We have a few other amazing trips up our sleeve and I'm trying to get a trip back East on the calendar. There is so much history to review! I feel a little bit sad, but also super excited, for when the girls start Montessori (Aspen in September and Maisy in January). Then I can really focus on the exciting and wonderful projects that I have in mind for my boys. And also, Disneyland :-) I will update with photos once my phone updates the pictures on my computer.

Also, prices go up for Rodan and Fields on September 1st - let me know what I can order for you!
