My hubby is 30!

First off, Brian turned 30 last week.  He seemed to take it in stride.  He keeps saying "I'm married and I have 2 kids - what does the number matter?"  For some reason, I think this is a HUGE deal.  Well, I've always been WAY more into birthdays than he has, but 30 is big.  It's a whole new decade.  It's the decade of being an adult.  I mean, 40 is the next decade and in your 40s your kids go to college.  30.  I think it's also because we've been together for 9 years.  I met Brian just after he turned 21.  I was 19.  Now he's 30. It's a big deal. Anyhow, he's the most handsome hubby I could have chosen and I'm super glad he's my hubby.  My 30 year old hubby.  Happy birthday Boo bear!  I adore you!
To celebrate Brian's birthday and to get out of L.A., I told Brian that we could go anywhere he wanted.  He decided that he wanted to go to Punta Mita, Mexico.  I have an attitude about Mexico.  I think it's dirty, especially after we went last year and Hunter got the worst diaper rash he's ever had.  We're talking oozing, open sores.  Sorry to be gross, but I was not too excited about Mexico.  (And we later found out that Hunter is allergic to almost all diaper rash creams - hence the open sores).  Anyhow, when we got there it was unlike anything I could have imagined.  Punta Mita is a gated off compound and you have to have a valid reason to enter the compound.  That made me feel safe.  Arriving at the hotel was like a dream.  The boys were angels on the plane and both fell asleep on the 45 minute drive to the hotel.  When we got there, the lobby was all open air with a view directly down to the ocean.  They brought champagne and iced tea and then walked us to our room....where we met our butler.  Seriously.  We had a butler.  How unnecessary is that? Very.  Amazing? Indeed.  Why might one need a butler? I'll give you an example.  Hunter was playing a lot one day and it slipped his mommy's rather slippery mind to re-apply sunscreen.  His normally beautiful white skin turned into a reddish pink.  So, our butley brought us aloe.  It's things like that that cause the need for a butler.  I don't know what we'll do now that we're home and have no butler.  Actually, I do.  Tuesday and Wednesday were both spent unpacking, doing laundry, folding and putting it away, and cleaning off the counters in the kitchen, armoire in our bedroom and the garage.  How do I have the energy to write this post?  I have no idea.

Our room was beautiful.  Not only did it have an indoor shower, but it also had an outdoor shower that was completely private and part of the room.  There was a beautiful claw-footed jacuzzi tub.  In the closet, not only was there a robe for me and one for Brian, but they had a child's robe and slippers for Hunter.  On the desk were 3 chocolate chip cookies for Hunter.  On the porch (which had a direct view of the ocean) there was a bed.  It was amazing.  The most amazing part of the trip though, was when Brian turned off his Blackberry.  He actually got to relax and unwind a little bit.

A little bit.  Going on vacation with a toddler and a newborn is less of a "getaway" and more of a "bring it with you". There was very little relaxing going on, but it was still a fun family excursion.  I got to spend a lot of time with each boy, as did Brian, because we were able to each take one kid.  I tried to give Brian ome downtime, so when Landon would fall asleep by the pool, I would take Hunter in the pool and let Brian read his book.  Speaking of Landon in the pool - never have I met such a relaxed child.  I brought him in the pool and he'd just look around and take it all in - not even a peep.  When I brought him in the warm tub (a warm hot tub) his whole body would immediately relax and he'd fall asleep within minutes.  It was amazing.

At the pool we met a group of kids.  Evidently, 6 families were travelling together - 15 kids and 12 adults.  Anyhow, about 5 of the kids fell in love with Hunter.  I called it his "posse".  The kids ranged from 5-15.  It was really nice for him to have older kids who wanted to play with him.  It was really nice for me too!  Of course, he is the most likable little boy, so it came as no surprise that he made friends where we didn't even now anyone would care to talk to him.

One last story: On the night of Brian's birthday we decided to get a babysitter for Hunter so we could enjoy a relaxing dinner.  They were doing a beach buffet with a live band, so we decided to do that.  This was one of the most beautiful places I have ever had dinner and it reminded me of our honeymoon.  We ate on the beach, toes in the sand, as the sun set right next to us and the waves came rolling in about 10 feet from our toes.  At the end of the night, the band sang "Feliz cumpleanos" to Brian and they brought him a cake that I had ordered for him.  They also sent a cake to our room wishing him a happy "40th" birthday.  Oops. I guess we'll go back in 10 years for his 50th.

Needless to say, we LOVED our vacation.  I would gladly go back to Punta Mita with or without the babies I think it would be an amazing place to visit.  The hotel was incredibly romantic, yet kid-friendly at the same time.
